ART STAGE SINGAPORE 2012
The Gallery Frank Pages will be participating to Art Stage Singapore 2012. For his first appearance Frank Pages will bring the 20o0 Nobel Price for Literature recipient GAO Xingjian back to Singapore. The Singapore Art Museum had hosted Gao’s first retrospective exhibition in Asia in 2005. In 2007 the SAM hosted a second exhibition “Gao Xingjian in Singapore” , Gao then donated his masterpiece Day and Night to the museum. Also on display major works of british pop-art artist Allen Jones, such as an outstanding large painting which was on display at the Summer Exhibition of the Royal Academy of Art London. Shown for the first time in Asia, Russian painter Igor Oleinikov with large scale paintings, an outstanding oil and pencil portrait on canvas. French Philippe Pasqua will be represented with painting, photography and sculpture. For the first time Frank Pages will be showing spanish painter Salustiano, whose amazing portraits on radiant red background have been very much noticed. Amid the young artists: Turkish painter Burςu Percin who has made a name with her large scale paintings of abandonned industrial plants, the inspiration she takes out of self-arranged collages of photographs she has taken on industrial sites. And Bellaruss Maxim Wakultschik with new works made especially for Art Stage Singapore 2012. Also young german urban artist Stefan Strumbel. Stefan Strumbel’s art revolves around the idea of »Heimat« which is a typical german word one could compare with »home sweet home«. His materials are typical objects from German culture such as cuckoo clocks, traditional costumes from the Black Forrest and crucifixes. Strumbel was given the front page of the 2011 Mai Edition of the New York Times Magazine. Photographic works by famous iranian-american Shirin Neshat from the well-known serie Rapture as well as incredible historical works from french photographer Suzanne Held out of her serie “Colors of India”. Suzanne Held is presently shown at the Museum of Archeology and History Montreal running until May 2012. And the new serie “Gods” by famous Turkish photographer Mehmet Günyeli, whose much acclaimed serie “Dervishes” was shown around the world, also at the Texas Museum of Modern Art.Frank Pages will also show 6 sculptors at Art Stage: South Corean Lim Dong Lak with stainless steel sculptures “Point” after his monumental sculpture exhibition in Baden-Baden in 2007. A brand new work from the serie “The Canticle of the Creatures” inspired by Francesco d’Assissi by italian artist Marcello Lo Giudice, shown 2011 at the Venice Biennal in the Italian Pavillon. Philippe Pasqua with one of his famous sculps Vanité. French sculptor Antoine Poncet, familiar to Singapore with his monumental piece Fleur Marine at the Marina Square in front of the Oriental Hotel. And Greek artist Sophia Vari also returns to Southeast Asia after her 2004 exhibition at the Museum of Kuala Lumpur.
Art Stage Singapore is Asia’s premier international art fair. It is a rendezvous point for the movers and shakers of the Asian Art market. In 2012, Art Stage Singapore (ArtSS12) will be held on 12 to 15 January at the Marina Bay Sands Convention and Exhibition Centre. With over 100 galleries exhibiting, there will also be a lecture series featuring renowned art industry professionals, various fringe programmes, and art-centred activities over the four fair days.
